Note to attendees: Pre-training regarding drill
Accepting that this course constitutes your initial training, you must have some knowledge and practical experience of drill prior to attending. If you have little or no practical experience, you should consult a uniform member of your squadron staff (or Wing training staff if no squadron staff are available), to ensure you get the relevant training prior to your arrival. Your Squadron Commander or, in their absence, your Wing Staff Officer, will have a proforma to sign prior to your attendance on the course, confirming that some training has taken place. We do not expect guardsman standards, but an ability to march effectively in a group, keep step and be able to carry out the basic static and quick-time movements will be expected from day one of the course.
Apart from ensuring there is a common standard at the outset of the course, prior experience will leave you less stressed and free to concentrate on the other training elements.
